Take a relaxing boat trip through the land of fairy tales and encounter many scenes from Disney's classic animated movies.

Les Pays des Contes de Fées is a slow and scenic journey through a fairy tale land which includes models of buildings from some Disney classic films and classic fairy tales. The ride sits alongside Casey Jr. just beneath the Disneyland Railroad tracks towards the back of the park.

Once aboard one of the pastel coloured boats guests pass under a small stone bridge and their cruise begins. The Dwarfs' mine and cottage come first, closely followed by scenes from "The Little Mermaid", "Peter and the Wolf" (from Disney's "Make Mine Music") and several scenes from Fantasia to name just a few. Next is The Cave of Wonders from Disney's "Aladdin" and then onwards to finish with Belle's town and the Beast's castle from "Beauty and the Beast", before the palace of the emerald city of Oz is the last sight.

To add to the atmosphere many of the models are accompanied by the music and small figures of some of the characters from the appropriate film.

Les Pays des Contes de Fées is a charming little boat ride, which offers a few moments to catch your breath and to enjoy this land, which seems to come right out of your favorite storybook...

Tips

On sunny days rabbits come out to relax on the grass banks around this attraction - so maybe Peter should be less worried about the wolf than that giant bunny looming on the horizon.
In the evening hours, when sparkling lights transform the scenes, a return trip is a special treat you shouldn't miss.

Specials
The original Disneyland in California features a similar ride named "Storybook Land". There, each boat includes its own cast member who sits aboard the boat giving commentary connected to each of the varied models (like from "Alice in Wonderland" and Monstro, the whale from "Pinocchio") you encounter. But here in Paris, Disney lets the charm of each model speak for itself.

The small characters found throughout all the scenes were added only after the opening of the cruise to add a more lively feeling to the ride especially for the younger guests - but guests who don't know this little fact would never guess so as the figurines fit perfectly. Just take a look at the small footprints in the snow of the "Peter and the Wolf"-scene - a wonderful example of the love for the detail that went into these displays.

And once again a note for all historians: this attraction was originally sponsored by Mattel till it dropped out of the contracts in 2000.

Limits
Almost everyone will enjoy this short trip through the fairy tale land. Children will particularly enjoy identifying the characters and locations from their favourite stories. Whilst adults will appreciate the minute themeing and perfectly manicured landscaping in which not a single twig or blade of grass seems out of place. Many teenagers however may find floating around a tiny model village complete with twinkly music a little less fun.
